Center Road is a regionally significant road which connects the Chimacum / Tri-Area UGA with the unincorporated Quilcene community in Jefferson County. This rural major collector serves high levels of traffic and provides a direct route to the Hood Canal area via HWY 101 leading to Mason County communities, the Olympic Area and via SR 104 the Kitsap County communities

This road has a posted speed is 55 mph, 11-feet wide lanes, and 8-foot wide shoulders; this segment is 4.24 miles long. The BST surface was severely cracked and rutted and had been maintained with patching and sealants; the two previous repaving/BST projects were in 1999 (25 years) and 1994 (30 years)

The BST surface was planed to a depth of 0.22' for a total width of 24' to remove the failing BST material. The roadway was re-paved with 0.20' of HMA, and the shoulders were fog-sealed with liquid asphalt emulsion. Several failing shoulder areas were rebuilt with crushed surfacing base course and HMA, and a minor slope drain was rebuilt to preserve the roadway prism. The roadway was re-striped with centerline and edge stripes
