Wind River Road is the center piece to the Southwest section of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, it leaves SR14 and travels through the community of Carson into the foothills of the national forest. It is the main line for all outlining communities to access the Columbia Gorge, along with a trucks hauling forest products to mills.

The roadway was in bad shape from storm events over the last five seasons, the freezing and thawing had taken its toll, with rutting and potholing through out the system.

The county milled the roadway fog line to fog line from the Hot Springs Road Intersection to Metzger Road Intersection. Then the county re-paved the road. The community and local businesses have offered much positive feed back as a result of these improvements.
