The existing bridge #79051, irrigation structure over Town Ditch is very importance to Kittitas County. It was originally built in 1955 and rebuilt in 1963. The bridge provides a regionally significant north-south connection, through the lower county, providing access to recreation, ranching and farming areas, and growing residential areas. It is the shortest route for residents east of Ellensburg to I-82 and SR-821.

The existing Bridge # 79051 had a very poor sufficiency rating of 27.82. The structure was 23.7' wide (curb to curb) and 18' in length. The roadway shoulder width narrowed significantly from two feet wide to .3 feet wide at the bridge. The concrete abutment walls experienced cracking and some rotation.

The county replaced bridge #79051 with a single span layout in a wider configuration to provide for additional lane and shoulder width. By replacing the bridge, the county addressed crucial public safety and mobility needs.
