May Creek Bridge was constructed in 1975. Over time meandering has increased and overall water flows have dropped significantly, leading to extensive scouring and stream bank erosion. The approaches were being threatened by the new patterns and continued deterioration.

The sub-structure was Scour-Critical due to shallow pile tip elevations in erosive granular soil.

The structure was replaced with a longer, higher, single span structure supported by piles to alleviate the erosive effects of the meandering river. The bridge was also widened to meet current standards for emergency vehicles. Stream banks were restored to a more natural state in consultation with resource agencies, thereby improving habitat.
