Grant - 6-SE ROAD

Project Number: 1589
From milepost 0 to milepost 3.81
RATA Funds: $825,525
Legislative District: 13
Status:
Date Approved: 2007
The sections of 6-SE in the project area were established as County Roads between 1905 and 1914 in order to serve the surrounding homestead farmers and other incoming/outgoing traffic to/from nearby Adams County and Southeast Douglas (later Grant) County. This roadway still serves as an important route for agricultural traffic, as well as motorists looking for a good route between U-SE and SR 17.

Existing roadway was only 22’ wide and did not meet current design standards. Sharp vertical curves near the railroad tracks and horizontal curves near existing irrigation facilities were smoothed out, closer to current standards (two deviations were approved for this project, however, where meeting full standards was not possible).

Roadway was widened to 34’ by contract, allowing for better mobility of wider farm equipment and other vehicles. County Forces constructed Class A BST for surfacing, which turned out well. Drainage was improved. Public feedback has been very positive, as a wider direct route between U-SE and SR 17 north of Warden.
