Patterson Rd E is the only public road serving more than 200 residential parcels as well as a variety of agricultural and forest lands in the historic coal mining community of Crocker.
In 2011, a portion of the existing 48” dia. corrugated metal culvert, collapsed causing a failure in the roadway prism subsequently flooding the adjacent property. The collapsed section was replaced with a 36” dia. corrugated HDPE culvert, placed inside the existing culvert, because the remaining metal culvert section was too decayed to accommodate a standard collar. WDFW approved the repair, understanding the repair was temporary and a permanent fish passable structure would be installed in the future. A steel plate has also been installed under the asphalt roadway to help distribute traffic loads and reduce the risk of further damage to the metal culvert. Since that time, periodic minor roadway repairs have been necessary to repair settlement and roadway failures. The culvert was found to be in poor condition during a 2019 inspection, with the barrel heavily rusted throughout and many areas along the normal water line have moderate to significant section loss.
This project will remove the existing culvert and replace with a new concrete structure.
