Schrantz Road is the only east/west connection between Middle Road and Dot Road. Schrantz Road is used by local ranchers to transport harvested agricultural products to market from the field. In addition Schrantz Road is used by the wind and solar energy producers for construction and maintenance of the wind and solar energy facilities in the area. Due to the increased truck traffic during wind farm construction, the speed limit on the bridge was lowered to 5mph for trucks. The lowered speed limit was needed to reduce impact loading on the bridge which has caused displacement of the abutment and tub girders. Because the bridge will continue to see an increase in use by agriculture and industrial energy project traffic, it should be replaced to regain full load capacity and use.

The County does not have records that identify when the existing bridge was constructed. The original timber superstructure was replaced in 1976 with tub girders from another bridge. The existing bridge needs to be replaced.
