This section of road is one of the few roads that connect Wahkiakum County with Pacific County. It is a haul road for logging trucks and a connection to SR 4 for the farms and residences in the area.
The road was originally built with wooden log drainage structures over the Deep River East Fork and over Hendrickson creek. These structures have been replaced with metal pipes but the pipes are not adequate for the flow so it goes over the road with any significant storm event.
This is phase two of a larger project that includes replacing failed culverts with gravity tide gates with a 3 channel box culvert with an improved tide gate design. Phase one is $3.544 Million and is funded by the Brian Abbott Fish Barrier Removal Board.
