This road was originally a state highway and was once scheduled to be exteded north to Pe El in Lewis County. It is a major route for freight operations hauling logs. It serves a number of local residences and provides access to timber harvestsing. The road is frequently used for recreational access for hunting and fishing.
The road had three issues, a sag vertical curve, an S curve around a hill, and a falling culvert where Clear Creek crosses. The sag curve and S curve limited sight distance.
The new bridge over the creek eliminated the falling culvert. It also raised the road at the sag and provides a much better sight distance. The bridge was placed adjacent to the existing road to reduce the radius on the two horizontal curves and the hill mass was cut away to really improve sight distance. The removal of the fish barrier has resulted in salmon seen spawning in Clear Creek.
