The McKinney Rd. is a North/ South Minor Collector in the Othello area connecting commercial and rural residential to Bench Rd or State Route 26 for access to Othello, Royal City, Moses Lake, and Tri Cities. The roadway is encompassed by irrigated farm land, rural residential and commercial aggregate suppliers. The road is a haul route for farmer’s to move their products to market or storage, contractors moving aggregate materials to projects, and residential traffic.
Factors to Consider
1. The recent ADT's show a volume of 325 vehicles, with 39% representing truck traffic.
2. The existing pavement is distressed with 11 foot driving lanes with minimal gravel and native material shoulder that has eroded in places.
3. This project will connect with the McKinney Safety Project (from Bench Rd north to SR26) scheduled to be constructed in 2019.
The project would consist of widening the roadbed to 30 feet width by grinding the existing pavement, widen the shoulders with the existing base material, mitigating roadside hazards, modifying side slopes, adding guardrail where required, replacing the base material with a sufficient depth of crushed surfacing for base material, and HMA surfacing.
The horizontal and vertical alignments may be realigned minimally to provide for safety, a smoother ride. Drainage facilities will be replaced or extended as needed.
