East Smith Road, between Everson Goshen Road and State Route 542, is a high volume Rural Major Collector with a T3 freight haul route rating and relatively high traffic accident occurrences.
This 3.25 mile long 2R resurfacing and restoration project shall correct structural roadway deficiencies and improve traffic and roadside safety conditions. This portion of East Smith Road was used in traffic detour routing during the summer of 2015 in association with a WSDOT bridge replacement project on SR 542, which resulted in substantial additional road structural deterioration. Roadway resurfacing will fix structural conditions including severely cracked, distressed, and raveled sections of the road. Traffic and roadside safety conditions will be improved by the project with new roadway stripping, additional edge line rumble strips for portions of the project, raised pavement markers, and enhanced signing.
This project provides roadway improvements connecting a compact roundabout project at Everson Goshen Road intersection at the west end of the project constructed in 2014, and a roundabout constructed by WSDOT in 2011 at SR 542 on the east end.
