Model Charter County Engineer Guidelines

NOTE: These documents are for your use, solely at your option, and are not a requirement.

CRAB developed this model ordinance to provide an option and general guidance for charter counties. (Counties who have not adopted a charter form of government may not use this option.) Charter counties have the option under the Washington State Constitution to organize the functions of the County Engineer differently than generally provided by law.

The County Road Administration Board (CRAB) recommends that any such changes be very carefully considered. County Road and County Engineer laws have been developed over many years to ensure that the Office of the County Engineer properly carry out a variety of intricately interlinked professional responsibilities.

The purpose in providing this guidance and model ordinance is to help ensure that legal responsibilities appropriate to the Office of the County Engineer are properly considered, and to try to ensure a clear understanding by all affected of those responsibilities

Download the Model Charter County Engineer Guidelines APPENDIX "B" version of the agreement developed after much research and consideration of the County Engineer requirements and responsibilities under law and possible permutations for charter counties.
